A seal of the same inscription by a Qing dynasty carver named Gu Peiliang is recorded in Feihongtang Yinpu (Records of Seals Collected by the Feihongtang) edited by Wang Qishu (1728-1799). Michael Gillingham illustrates another etui painted in "famille-rose" colors on a white ground in Chinese Painted Enamels , Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, 1978, pp. 85, no. 113 where he suggests that this example was originally fitted (probably in Europe) with necessaires such as knives, bodkins, tweezers and scissors.
