MEMENTO MORI TABLE CLOCK / FIGURAL POCKET WATCH CASE WITH SPINDLE POCKET WATCH IN THE SHAPE OF SKULL. 19th c.. Pocket watch case in the shape of a skull; designed in the tradition and idea of "Memento Mori" (lat. "Be aware of mortality"). 1) Case in the shape of a fully plastic skull resting on two crossed bones; partially openworked with hinged top. Worked in 13-silver solder (812 1/2 er); total weight 304 grams. Hallmarked with Vienna city mark (year 1841) and master mark "M". Front part with engraved floral decoration. Skull back with engraved scene: "Dance of death with clergyman and shepherd in landscape". 2) Spindle pocket watch, key wound (with key). Dial designed in bicolor (yellow gold and red gold) with engraved floral decoration. With Roman numerals and outer minute track as well as hour and minute. Movement with verge escapement, fusee on chain and open worked balance cock / spindle cock. Movement unmarked. Clock runs in short time test. D. of the movement cm. Skull h. 7,5 x w. 10 x d. 9,5 cm.
