A Chinese gilt bronze buddha figure, dating from the 18th century. The seated buddha holds a mouse in his left hand and makes a shuni mudra shape in his right. To his right on the ground is a large foo lion head, with its mouth open. Behind his gilt spiked headdress is evidence of red paint, and black paint behind the head. Four small pins extend from base for placement on a stand. H. 3 3/4" (9.5 cm), D. 3 1/2" (8.9 cm) Provenance: acquired in India or Nepal,circa 1970s Sotheby's New York, Sep 22 2020, Indian,Himalayan & Southeast Asian Works of Art, Lot # 337 Condition: good condition overall for age and use, with wear on the gilding and the painted areas.
