A Chinese Thangka painting on silk of Tara, dating from the Qing dynasty. Thangkas have a variety of uses, bt they are mostly used as a means of gaining merit, in death rituals, during meditation, and in Buddhist ceremonies. This one depicts Tara, in center, flanked by two figures in bottom corners and one above her head. Material sewn on both sides, with patchwork on back. Overall: H. 40 3/4" (103.5 cm), W. 23 1/2" (59.6cm) Provenance: Owned by Francis J. Caro, son of Frank Caro from Frank Caro Gallery,formerly owned by C.T Loo condition: with distress, visible age and deterioration, cracking, staining, on both sides.
