This attractive 18th C Coffee Cup and Saucer was made by Thomas Turner at his Caughley Works in Shropshire about 1795. They are both marked with with the blue "S" for Salopian. Both pieces are in excellent condition, even the gilding! There are no chips, no cracks, no crazing, and no repairs. There is a tiny nick in the un-glazed foot rim of the cup.. Each piece rings when tapped. The cup is about 2-5/8" high, the saucer diameter is 5-1/2". This cup has 25 vertical flutes. The cup shape is shown on page 14, plate 84 of Michael Berthoud's " Apendium of British C". He dates the shape c 1795. I have 3 of these sets available. The listed price is for one cup and saucer set.
