Description

This is a rare Quimper Pottery Puzzle Jug Pitcher. This is an unmarked piece of faience which is earthenware covered with opaque colored glazes. Since this piece is unmarked it dates to before 1890 when everything was required to have a country of origin mark. This puzzle jug has an inscription that reads “If you wish to drink know where to put your hands” and it measures 6.5”H x 6”W x 4”D. There is a small paint loss on the snake which I have pictured. This pitcher is beautifully painted with a lovely pattern of blackberries and leaves and would be wonderful displayed on a shelf or cabinet. I have been in business and been passionate about antiques for over 40 years.
