An exceptionally fine Doulton Lambeth stoneware wine jug or pitcher beautifully sprigged or decorated in relief with applied clusters of grapes and leaves on the upper body. The center is also finely decorated with scenes of children gathering grapes and branches interspersed between grape trees. The base is decorated with elongated acanthus leaves. The applied crook handle and finely turned spout add further to the graceful design of the pitcher. The pitcher stands 9 1/2" tall to the top of the handle; the body of the jug is approximately 5" in diameter at its widest point. The jug is in pristine condition with no chips, cracks, or loss to the decoration. The base is marked as shown with the Doulton Lambeth mark and impressed with the year 1884. Other marks include the initials of the potter decorator. The jug weighs 2 1/4 lbs before , and ping will be via Priority Mail.
