A Japanese dagger, dating from the Meiji period. Holes with grommet on upper and lower area of dagger wooden sheath. Dagger has sharp point on metal blade, but squares and thickens to its base. Japanese character can be seen under the age along both sides of squared blade. To be used primarily for thrusting and not cutting. Blade: L. 11 1/2" (29.2 cm), Overall: L. 17 1/2" (44.4 cm)Condition: good condition overall for age and use, with age related wear to metal blade, which has rusting, and lacquered wooden handle, which has wear and fading of original paint. Wooden sheath also wear to original paint.
