This is ensuring a stable structural support. There is a patched repair which is partly obscured by the right part of the lower horizontal cross member. A further very small patched repair is visible in the extreme upper right corner as viewed from the reverse. These appear stable. The reverse of the canvas is inscribed by the artist. The tacking and turnover edges are covered with brown tape. Paint Surface The paint surface has a relatively even varnish layer. The paint surface displays scattered networks of slightly raised craquelure, including corresponding to the stretcher members. These are stable and are no visually obtrusive. Inspection under ultraviolet light shows vestiges of uneven opaque varnish which prevents the ultraviolet light from fully penetrating. Inspection under ultraviolet light also reveals small, scattered retouchings, including on and close to the extreme edges and numerous very small spots and lines within the sky and to a lesser extent the sea. There is a slightly arching horizontal line of retouching below the boat in the lower left which corresponds to the patched repair on the reverse. A small retouching towards the upper left corner corresponds to other very minor patched repair. Summary The painting would therefore appear to be in good and stable condition."In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above.
