This wonderful set of 12 Antique Digoin & Sarreguimines French Dessert Plates date to the later part of the 19c, circa 1875-1899. They are fabulously decorated with transferware scenes depicting the life and trials of Joan d'Arc. The Black transfer-ware scenes are very well done with great detail, like a fine etching or engraving would have. The blue and white transfer-ware border is quite elaborate with heraldic themes, weapons, scroll and leaf motifs, and the words Patrie, Gloire, and Honneur; paying tribute to France's Patron Saint. The plates measure approx 7 1/2" in diameter. The condition is very very good. I purchased them at a very fine estate here in San Diego and they were well kept on display in a china closet for many many years. There are no chips, cracks or repairs. The black mark on the back indicates the time from when they were made, and they have an incised mark as well. These would be an incredible set to display in your home and quite the conversation piece to entertain your guests with. They will be well wrapped to insure a safe arrival. Thanks for stopping by Judi's Beauties and have a wonderful day.
