Beautiful Rockingham hand-painted botanical plates with rococo styling. Each plate has a unique hand-painted floral arrangement in the center. The arrangements include baskets and vases holding lush flowers: tulips, peonies, roses, tiger lilies, lilacs, irises, hydrangea, aster, delphinium, zinnia, and blue bells. The borders are a beautiful warm green with gold gilding and white floral highlights, interspersed with panels of various species hand-painted birds. Diameter: 9 1/4 inches Condition: All have a little stacking wear to the inner rim of the plate (cavetto) only, most have very light crazing to the plate glaze. One plate has 1 inch hairline crack on backside only, barely visible. 19th Century, no makers mark. Rockingham pottery was a 19th century producer of porcelain located in Swinton, Yorkshire, England. Rockingham was acclaimed internationally and supplied pieces to royalty and aristocracy. In 1842, when their elaborate designs became too expensive to produce, they ceased production.
