011416-3/RL-811 There are a lot of light glares in the photos, due to the brilliant glazing of the pottery. This is a round Japanese Nippon vase with a hand painted scene of a man in Japanese dress among many trees, or in the woods or forest. The painting is highly executed, meaning it is very well done. The date is circa 1910. The vase appears to me to be pottery, not porcelain. However I can be wrong as Nippon is normally associated with high quality porcelain, not pottery. The vase is not a fake or . The vase is 7 1/2” high and 8” wide at the belly, with a small mouth. The inside and bottom is glazed a cream, similar to Satsuma ware. The entire vase has a fine crazing, both inside and outside, which is typical of pottery. There are no nicks, chips or cracks, other than the edge of the foot rest shows tiny nick wear to the paint only. The bottom of the foot rest is dirty due to age and wear. The black mark is a circle surrounded by the words Royal Nippon Hand Painted. There are two printed blue words followed by the number 36163. There are two blue numbers that are B156/963. These types of numbers and words are usually found with Royal Nippon marks.
