Many young British men left for months or years at a time on the great s that Britain was sending off to trade around the world, and the lads would have to trust that the young ladies remaining at home would be faithful to them during their voyage on foreign seas. This figure is said to picture Henry Woodward, a young lad connected somehow with a popular ballad, presumably as he runs off the ready to greet his patiently waiting lass. There are also losses and excellent repairs to the bocage in the back. Displays as bright as the day it was made. He is marked N316, the correct Derby inventory number, and stands almost nine inches high, with some well-done repairs to his neck, left thumb and right arm.
