This is a wonderful and rare condiment set made by Doulton Lambeth. The set consists of two shakers, an open pot and a lidded pot. Each piece is decorated with leaves and beads in the Art Nouveau manner. There are quite a few marks on these pieces. The two shakers and open pot are stamped on the underside with the Doulton Lambeth mark and the date 1878. The three are all signed “AG”, which stands for Annie Gentle, an artist employed at Doulton. They also bear the mark of Alice ME Barker and the initials “AS(B)?”, which I haven’t been able to identify. The lidded mustard pot, however, is stamped with the earliest Royal Doulton mark, which was in use from 1902 - I assume that this is a replacement piece, despite it matching the other three pieces, although the browns are lacking the dark tones present in the other three pieces. This piece is also signed by Annie Gentle and is stamped as well with other initials (see close-up photo). I don’t have information on Annie Gentle, but obviously, she was with Doulton for some time. The silverplate carrying tray is signed on its underside with “AJR” within a trefoil - this stands for the maker “Jehoiada A Rhodes”. Everything appears to be in very good condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. This is a rare set - beautiful display item!
