A large English ironstone dairy shop display slab or stand, circa 1880. It was used to display butter, cheese, margarine and other cold dairy products on a grocer’s shop counter. It was placed upon a block of ice which would chill the slab and thus keep the dairy products cold. . Customers purchased slices of margarine, butter, etc., from these slabs. Antique sturdy stands like this are very difficult to find and are very collectible. This was a slab for trade mercial) use in grocery stores. It is unmarked and weights a substantial 11 pounds.
