A Rare Chinese Yuan Dynasty Buddhist Stone Prayer Tablet (Sanskrit). Carved with a central human figure surrounded by Sanskrit-type characters being Buddhist prayers. Along the bottom are three carved zodiac animals, a snake, horse & ox. 47.5cm (18.75 inches) tall, 37cm (14.5 inches) wide. For reference: two similar tablets are shown in the 2001 book “Collecting Chinese Antiquities in Hong Kong” where they are described as “Limestone Panels from temple”. Provenance: from the collection of the late Brian Page (1938-2018), the well-known Oriental art and antiques dealer from Brighton.
