A Chinese Song / Jin Dynasty Black & Brown Glazed Stoneware Jar. This stoneware jar was made during the 11th - 13th century at one of the workshops in Henan province. The upper body and inner mouth are coated in a thick black glaze, the interior in a thinner brown glaze. The lower outer surface remains unglazed showing the cream-coloured stoneware body. To the inside centre are firing marks, clearly from where a smaller vessel was placed inside this jar during firing. Around the shoulder are two small loop handles. Height 12.75 cm (5 inches), diameter 14.75 cm (5.75 inches). Northern Song (AD 960 - 1127) or Jin Dynasty (AD 1115 - 1234). Provenance: from the collection of the late Brian Page (1938-2018), the well-known Oriental art and antiques dealer from Brighton.
