A Large Chinese Neolithic Red Pottery Jar - Siwa Culture (c. 1350 BC). From its base, the body spreads out to a wide waist and then tapers in a little before spreading out again to form the wide saddle-shaped mouth. There are two loop handles that join the shoulder to the rim. Much of the surface has been fired to an attractive orange-red with variations in colour in places, a result of uneven conditions during the firing process. It is relatively highly-fired compared to others of this type. Height of 29cm (11.5 inches). Siwa Culture c.1350 BC. Provenance: from the collection of the late Brian Page (1938-2018), the well-known Oriental art and antiques dealer from Brighton.
