A Large Chinese Neolithic Machang Painted Pottery Jar (2300-2000 BC). Made from a yellowish-brown pottery with a small base, wide body with two loop handles, a short neck with flared mouth. The decoration in fired-on mineral-based pigments features "hand" and geometric patterns. Height 38cm (15 inches). From Gansu or Qinghai province. Machang Phase (c. 2300 - 2000 BC). Provenance: from the collection of the late Brian Page (1938-2018), the well-known Oriental art and antiques dealer from Brighton.
